Cebu Province Plans Mental Health Shelter for Vulnerable Groups

The Cebu provincial government is planning to establish a mental health and trauma recovery services shelter as part of expanding protection for vulnerable groups in the province.

Meeting Highlights

During a meeting of the Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children, led by Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Provincial Health Office Chief Dr. Shiela Faciol, the medical and mental health frameworks for the facility were discussed. These include psychological first aid, trauma processing, and improved access to treatment for various mental health conditions.

Specialized Care for Children

For children, the plan includes offering specialized care such as play therapy and art therapy to support their emotional recovery. Dr. Faciol noted that the Capitol has already secured a supply of medicines for mental illness, anxiety, and depression through collaboration with psychologists.
