Cebu Youth Photowalk Empowers Students in Visual Storytelling Skills
Cebu Youth Photowalk Boosts Student Photography Skills

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the social hall at Cebu City Hall was filled with enthusiastic young photographers as the "Kritik-Pitik" photowalk took place. This event was organized by a youth group based in Cebu City with the primary goal of developing the skills of students in photography and visual storytelling.

Event Highlights and Participation

Nearly 50 students from various schools attended the activity, showcasing a strong interest in creative arts. Before the participants split up to capture images at Carbon Market as their designated location, a photography lecture series was conducted. This session provided essential guidance on proper photography techniques and how to observe angles for community stories, ensuring participants were well-prepared for the practical aspect of the event.

Expert Judging and Competition Results

After the photo coverage at the market, the submissions were evaluated by a panel of three expert judges in photography. The judges included Lou Adrian Paghasian, a school paper adviser and photojournalist; Elnar Pagao, a champion in photojournalism; and John Velez, a well-known figure in the media and photography fields. Their expertise ensured a fair and insightful assessment of the students' work.

Impact on Youth Development

According to Kim Jamella Villamor, one of the event organizers, this initiative offered participants a valuable opportunity to understand the story behind each photograph they captured and to express their diverse styles in photography. It served as a crucial part of their growth as new photo storytellers, fostering creativity and community engagement among the youth.

The "Kritik-Pitik" photowalk not only provided a platform for skill enhancement but also promoted cultural and educational exchange in Cebu City. By focusing on visual storytelling, it empowered students to document and share narratives from their community, contributing to their personal and artistic development.
