The family of a five-year-old boy is demanding justice after their child died in Argao, Cebu, allegedly at the hands of his nine-year-old cousin. The incident occurred on November 26, 2025, and the family firmly believes the death was not an accident but intentional.
A Mother's Discovery and Heartbreak
Edith Mier, the 27-year-old mother of the victim, recounted discovering multiple injuries on her son's body. She saw wounds under his jaw, a cut behind the ear, and another injury on his neck. The boy's body also showed various bruises on different parts, painting a tragic picture of his final moments.
The sequence of events began around 2:00 PM on November 26, 2025, when the young boy asked his mother for permission to go to the river with his cousin to collect "taklong," a type of shellfish. This was a common activity for the two boys, who were described as being very close and having few other forms of entertainment.
The Tragic Timeline and Conflicting Accounts
The child was found lifeless at approximately 7:00 PM that same evening, his body already stiff. Edith Mier believes her son actually died much earlier, between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
When questioned about the incident, the nine-year-old suspect claimed the victim had pushed him first, which led to him allegedly cutting his cousin's neck with a cutter. This account is being heavily scrutinized by the grieving family, who find the nature and number of injuries inconsistent with a simple accident or act of self-defense.
The family attempted to rush the boy to the hospital, but their efforts were in vain as he could not be saved.
A Family's Plea for Justice
Edith Mier is now making an emotional appeal for justice. She has heard that the minor suspect is currently with his mother, despite being under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
"My only plea is for my child to receive justice," Mier stated. "Even though the suspect is a minor, the DSWD should take action since they have custody. They should ensure that justice is served for my son's death."
The case highlights complex issues surrounding juvenile responsibility and the quest for justice when children are involved in tragic incidents. The family continues to mourn their loss while seeking answers and accountability for the death of their five-year-old boy.
