The peaceful town of Argao in Cebu was shaken by a heartbreaking tragedy when a five-year-old boy lost his life in what his family believes was an intentional act of violence. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, leaving the community in shock and the boy's family demanding justice.
A Mother's Discovery and Heartbreak
Edith Mier, the 27-year-old mother of the victim, made a horrifying discovery when she found her son's body. The young boy had sustained multiple injuries including a stab wound below his jaw, a cut at the tip of his ear, and another serious wound on his neck. Further examination revealed multiple bruises scattered across different parts of his small body, adding to the family's conviction that this was no ordinary accident.
According to Mier's account, her son had asked for permission to go to the river with his nine-year-old cousin around 2 p.m. that fateful day. The two boys were reportedly very close and often visited the river to gather shells, as they had limited entertainment options in their mountainous community.
The Tragic Timeline and Revelation
The family's search for the missing boy ended around 7 p.m. when they found his body stiff and floating face down in the river water. Mier strongly believes her son died much earlier, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., based on the condition of the body when discovered.
When questioned about the incident, the nine-year-old cousin allegedly admitted to stabbing the victim after being kicked by him. The family immediately attempted to rush the boy to the hospital, but medical help came too late - the child was already lifeless.
A Mother's Plea for Justice
Through her grief, Edith Mier has made an emotional appeal for justice. "I just want justice for my son," she stated, highlighting her concerns about the suspect's living situation. "I've heard rumors that the child is only with the mother [of the suspect]. The DSWD should do something since they have custody."
The tragedy is compounded by the realization that the young victim had been eagerly looking forward to starting his education journey. His last request to his mother was to buy a new school bag, as he was excited about enrolling in school and had high hopes for his future.
The family is holding the wake at the boy's grandmother's house, with burial scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2025. As the community mourns this unimaginable loss, questions remain about the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome between two young cousins.
