Cebu Casino Workers Clash Over Office Gossip, One Arrested
Cebu Casino Workers Fight Over Gossip, Woman Arrested

A workplace dispute between casino employees escalated into physical violence at a hotel and casino in Cebu City, leading to one woman's arrest for assault. The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday, November 14, 2025, highlighting how office gossip and romantic tensions can spiral out of control.

Violent Confrontation in Casino Lobby

The altercation took place at 1:40 AM on November 14, 2025 at a hotel and casino located in South Road Property, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. According to police reports, Mayang, a 24-year-old table game dealer from Barangay Punta Princesa, confronted her coworker Mary, a 25-year-old table game dealer from Barangay Parian, in the establishment's lobby.

The confrontation turned violent when Mayang struck Mary in the face with a water bottle, causing visible swelling and injuries to her nose and forehead area. Mary immediately reported the incident to authorities, leading to Mayang's arrest and detention at the Mambaling Police Station.

Roots of the Conflict: Gossip and Romantic Rumors

During police investigation, Mayang confessed that her actions stemmed from months of enduring what she described as excessive gossip and character assassination by Mary. The central figure in their conflict was a male coworker identified only as Ronnie.

Mayang revealed that Ronnie had expressed romantic interest in her, but she had rejected his advances because she was already in a relationship. Despite her clear refusal, Ronnie continued to pursue her, which became a source of office speculation and malicious talk.

The situation worsened when Mary began spreading rumors about Mayang's relationship with Ronnie. Mary allegedly took photographs of Mayang and Ronnie together in the canteen and shared them in group chats, eventually reaching Mayang's family members.

The Breaking Point and Aftermath

Mayang told investigators that she reached her breaking point when the gossip affected her personal life and family relationships. On her way to work that Friday morning, she decided to confront Mary in the casino lobby.

"In my anger, I hit her with the tumbler I was carrying, causing swelling on her nose and forehead," Mayang stated during her testimony to police. She expressed no regret for her actions, claiming she had finally gotten revenge for the continuous character assassination she had endured.

Mary, however, provided a different perspective to authorities. She claimed that Mayang was actually the one who had romantic feelings for Ronnie, but he didn't reciprocate her interest. Mary also mentioned having video evidence showing Mayang riding on Ronnie's motorcycle, though she insisted there was nothing inappropriate about the interaction.

The Mambaling Police Station has filed physical injury charges against Mayang, who remains in custody as the investigation continues. Both women work as table game dealers at the same establishment, raising concerns about workplace environment and conflict resolution among casino staff in Cebu.
