A violent altercation between neighbors turned bloody in Cebu City when a 30-year-old man stabbed his 39-year-old neighbor with an ice pick, citing years of alleged bullying as the motive for the attack.
Violent Morning Attack in Guadalupe
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at approximately 5:40 AM in Sitio Sudena English V. Rama Avenue, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City. According to police investigations, Francis Jun Alfarero, 39, was sitting on a bench near an internet cafe, preoccupied with his cellphone, when he was suddenly approached by his neighbor.
Giordano Zafra Labiste, alias "Dano," 30, who was described as intoxicated at the time, allegedly stabbed Alfarero in the neck with an ice pick without warning. Following the assault, Labiste casually walked back to his residence as if nothing had happened.
Years of Bullying Boil Over
When interviewed by Sunstar Superbalita Cebu, Labiste confessed to the crime and explained that he had reached his breaking point after enduring what he described as persistent bullying from the victim. "He was humiliating me that time without any valid reason, he was so arrogant! He has been doing this since I was still a child, he would bully me, twist my ears, slap me," the suspect recounted.
Labiste revealed that beyond physical harassment, Alfarero frequently shouted obscenities at him. "I couldn't take it anymore, my patience ran out. I approached him while he was playing scatter and sitting down. When I got close, I immediately stabbed his neck with the ice pick like it was being skewered for barbecue," Labiste stated during the interview.
Aftermath and Remorse
The victim was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment of his neck wound. Meanwhile, Labiste surrendered to responding police officers and is currently detained at the Guadalupe Police Station 9, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Expressing deep regret for his actions, Labiste apologized to the victim and his family, acknowledging that he was overcome by anger. He also issued a warning to habitual bullies, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect to prevent similar crimes. "I urge all people who strongly bully others to stop already, because they don't know what the victim feels," Labiste emphasized, highlighting the psychological impact of sustained harassment.
The case continues to be investigated by local authorities as both parties face the consequences of this tragic neighborhood conflict that escalated into violence.
