A 67-year-old senior citizen is now in police custody after allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl inside a public tricycle in Toledo City, Cebu. The incident, which has sparked outrage in the community, occurred on the evening of Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Details of the Alleged Assault

According to police investigation, the incident took place at around 4:30 PM while the victim, identified only as "Lika," was riding in the back of a tricycle on her way to Barangay Captain Claudio. The suspect, known by the alias "Pedot," a married resident of the same barangay, reportedly sat beside the teenager.

Authorities stated that the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time, suddenly touched and groped the minor's private parts, including her breasts. The victim, a Grade 10 student at St. Bernard National High School, was reportedly paralyzed with fear and unable to scream.

Text Message Leads to Rescue and Arrest

Despite her terror, the quick-thinking teenager managed to send a text message to a classmate, pleading for help. This classmate immediately informed the victim's mother about the traumatic event.

The victim and her mother then reported the crime to the Toledo City Police Station at 7:00 PM. Police launched a follow-up operation, which led them to the suspect's residence in Barangay Captain Claudio.

Swift Police Action and Apprehension

The suspect was positively identified by the victim, leading to his arrest. He was handcuffed at 9:00 PM near the Toledo Public Market in Barangay Poblacion.

Investigators learned that the suspect had earlier collected his pension in Poblacion and had been drinking before heading home. It was during his tricycle ride that he allegedly targeted and abused the young passenger.
