Construction Worker Detained for Alleged Rape of PWD Woman in Talisay City
A 31-year-old construction worker is currently in custody at the Inayawan Police Station, facing serious allegations of raping a 26-year-old woman who is a Person with Disability (PWD). The suspect, identified by the alias Junjun, was apprehended through a hot pursuit operation on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at his workplace in Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City.
Incident Details and Victim's Account
According to a report from the Inayawan Police, the victim, known as Hannah, was walking home to Barangay Bulacao after eating at a local eatery around 3:00 in the morning. It is alleged that the suspect approached her and forcibly took her to his residence in Sityo Ciwac. Inside the room, Junjun reportedly undressed the victim and sexually assaulted her, despite her resistance and protests.
Family's Discovery and Police Response
The victim's mother, identified as Lorna, grew concerned when her daughter did not return home on time. Upon calling Hannah's cellphone, she heard a male voice on the other end, heightening her worries. When Hannah finally arrived home, Lorna noticed that her daughter's eyeglasses were missing. After questioning, Hannah pointed to the suspect's house where her glasses had been left behind.
Realizing that her daughter had been violated, Lorna immediately took Hannah for a medical examination and reported the incident to the police. Authorities swiftly coordinated with Junjun's workplace in Talisay to prevent him from receiving his salary while they pursued his arrest.
Suspect's Confession and Defense
Junjun attempted to flee the area but was hindered by a lack of funds, leading to his capture. During interrogation, he admitted to the assault but offered a defense, claiming that he and Hannah had been in a relationship for two months and that the incident was consensual. However, he also confessed to using illegal drugs at the time of the alleged crime. The suspect has since apologized to the victim's family, expressing remorse for his actions.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about violence against vulnerable individuals, particularly PWDs, and underscores the importance of prompt police action in such sensitive matters. The investigation continues as authorities gather further evidence to support the charges against Junjun.
