PBBM: Personal appearance better for VP Sara in impeachment trial

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that the impeachment process would be clearer and smoother if Vice President Sara Duterte personally appears before the Senate impeachment court. He emphasized that direct responses from the accused are preferable to answers given solely through lawyers, clarifying that this is his personal opinion and not a legal recommendation.

President Marcos Advocates for Direct Participation

“If you can answer directly, of course the process becomes clearer, the process becomes easier. But that’s just my own opinion and that’s not a legal opinion,” Marcos said. He added that if he were in the same situation, he would choose to appear and respond to allegations even against the advice of his legal counsel. “I would almost insist over the advice of lawyers. If they advise me not to appear, I would insist on appearing,” the President further stated.

Impeachment Court Orders Duterte’s Attendance

The impeachment court has ordered Duterte to attend the hearing on July 6, either in person or through legal representation. The defense team indicated that she may appear if necessary and if recommended by their legal panel.
