A violent domestic dispute fueled by extreme jealousy led to the arrest of a husband in Cebu City this week. The Sawang Calero Police Station apprehended the suspect after he allegedly attempted to assault his wife with a hammer and then chased her with a bladed weapon.
Timeline of a Terrifying Attack
The incident unfolded on the evening of Tuesday, December 16, 2025. According to police investigation, the conflict between the couple, identified only by the aliases "Omong" and "Jean," began around 3:30 in the afternoon. The argument stemmed from personal issues and was exacerbated by the husband's intense jealousy.
Blinded by rage, the suspect, Omong, first tried to strike his wife with a hammer. Fortunately, Jean managed to evade the blow and quickly fled their home located on Block 3, Sto. Niño Street in Barangay Suba, Cebu City. Not content, the enraged husband then grabbed a bolo, a type of Filipino machete, and pursued his wife with the clear intent to kill her.
Neighbor Intervention Leads to Arrest
The victim's quick thinking saved her life. She was able to seek help from neighbors and find refuge in a safe location, escaping further harm. Authorities at the Sawang Calero Police Station received the report and promptly responded to the scene.
By 6:20 PM that same evening, police successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect. Officers recovered the bolo and hammer, which are believed to be the primary weapons used in the violent attack. Both the suspect and victim are reported to be of legal age.
Legal Consequences Under Anti-VAWC Law
The suspect now faces serious legal repercussions. He is set to be charged with Attempted Parricide under Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. This law imposes severe penalties for acts of violence committed against spouses and their children.
This case highlights the severe dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts and the critical role of community vigilance. The swift action by both the neighbors and the Cebu City police potentially prevented a more tragic outcome.
