President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has strongly denied corruption allegations against him, asserting that the narrative portraying him as the mastermind behind anomalies is baseless. In a statement, the President said, "But if I were behind that, why would I destroy my own 'racket'? It lacks logic."
Flood Control Projects Under Scrutiny
Marcos described the allegedly anomalous flood control projects, which he first exposed during his 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), as a "deep-seated system of corruption." He emphasized that if asked whether those involved feel shame, his answer is that some do not.
Defense Against Calls for Removal
Responding to calls for his ouster, Marcos argued that he was the one who exposed and initiated investigations into corruption. He claimed that if he had not done so, the issues would not have come to light. He stressed that the fight against corruption is far from over, noting that as investigations deepen, more irregularities are being uncovered, including those in flood control projects that allegedly extend to previous administrations.
Comparison with Past Administrations
The President pointed out that no previous administration had taken similar steps, such as investigating, freezing accounts, or imprisoning individuals related to such allegations. He highlighted that reports of widespread corruption in projects have long existed, but no one was held accountable until now.
