Ombudsman Targets Hidden Ill-Gotten Wealth in US

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla has declared that his office will do everything possible to recover alleged ill-gotten wealth hidden in the United States. He made the statement during a town hall meeting in Washington, D.C., asserting that the US should no longer be a safe haven for illegal wealth from the Philippines. However, he did not mention any specific cases.

Reforms and International Cooperation

Remulla also shared reforms being pushed by the Ombudsman, including strengthening cooperation with other countries and expanding access to public services. He emphasized the need for a unified approach to combat corruption and recover stolen assets.

Global Conference on SDG 16

Earlier, Remulla attended the 7th Global Conference on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. There, he discussed the multi-billion peso corruption in flood control projects currently under investigation by the Ombudsman. According to Remulla, these projects involve significant anomalies that his office is actively pursuing.
