Sandiganbayan Questions Visits to Detained Senator Marcoleta
Sandiganbayan Questions Visits to Sen. Marcoleta

The Sandiganbayan has questioned the visit of Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Robin Padilla to detained Senator Rodante Marcoleta at the PNP General Hospital. According to the court, Marcoleta is suffering from pneumonia and his doctor recommended he remain isolated due to the contagious nature of his illness. The magistrates asked why he was still permitted to receive visitors.

PNP Health Service Admits Lapses

The PNP Health Service admitted lapses in implementing health protocols. According to them, visitors were not required to wear face masks. However, they clarified that the decision on who may visit falls under the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Marcoleta's Condition Improving

Despite the lapse, doctors said Marcoleta's condition is improving and he may now travel as long as he wears a face mask. They recommended he remain in the hospital until July 15 to complete his antibiotic treatment.

Court Orders Independent Medical Exam

The Sandiganbayan also ordered a separate medical examination by a doctor from UP-Philippine General Hospital to assess Marcoleta's condition before he is brought to court for arraignment and transferred to New Quezon City Jail.

Marcoleta faces a plunder case involving alleged undeclared campaign donations worth P75 million.
