Student Death Threat to Suspend Class Panics Olango School

A Grade 12 student in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City, posted a fake death threat on Facebook using a dummy account to force class suspension, triggering panic among students, parents, and teachers.

Incident Details

According to initial investigation, the 17-year-old student had no intention of carrying out the threat. Instead, he was influenced by a similar incident in Talisay City and aimed solely to halt classes. The post, under the username Leonido Inoc, spread rapidly on social media.

Authorities Trace Source

Through coordinated efforts, authorities traced the post to the student, who used a dummy account. Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King-Chan emphasized that this incident serves as a warning to be responsible on social media.

“In today’s technology, accounts used to break the law can easily be traced, even dummy accounts,” Mayor King-Chan said. “Social media must be used properly, and we must avoid spreading fake news and messages that cause fear, chaos, and disturbance in the community.”

Current Status

The minor is now under the care of the Women and Children Protection Desk, with assistance from the Violence Against Women and Children Desk of Barangay Talima, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and Department of Education to ensure continuity of his modular classes.
