Police Operation Nets Illegal Firearm in Pinamungajan Residence
Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mandaue City Field Unit conducted a successful raid on Tuesday evening, November 25, 2025, resulting in the confiscation of an unregistered firearm from a suspect in Barangay Butong, Pinamungajan City. The operation, which took place at precisely 6:10 PM, targeted the residence of Charlito Capa Gorres, 44, a local resident facing charges related to illegal possession of firearms.
Coordinated Law Enforcement Effort
The CIDG-Mandaue City Field Unit, under the leadership of Police Captain Melvin Mangahas, collaborated closely with the Pinamungajan Municipal Police Station to execute the search warrant. The legal document had been issued by Judge Judilyn Hugo Tapia Menchavez, the Executive Judge of RTC Branch 8 in Toledo City, on November 21, 2025. The warrant specifically addressed violations of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
During the carefully planned operation, authorities discovered and seized a caliber .45 pistol identified as a Government Model M1911 US Army, complete with its magazine containing four live ammunition rounds. Investigators confirmed that Gorres could not produce any legal documents or permits authorizing his possession of the firearm, leading to his immediate apprehension.
Background and Police Response
The operation followed multiple reports received by CIDG 7 regarding the suspect's habitual carrying of firearms, which had caused significant concern and fear among neighborhood residents. After gathering substantial intelligence and verifying the threats posed by the armed individual, CIDG 7 promptly applied for the necessary search warrant, which received swift judicial approval.
This enforcement action forms part of the broader Oplan Paglalansag Omega initiative, the flagship program of the CIDG designed to combat criminal elements and enhance public safety through systematic operations against illegal weapons and other criminal activities.
The successful implementation of the search warrant demonstrates the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in addressing community safety concerns and enforcing firearms regulations throughout the region.
