Massive Drug Interceptions at Clark Freeport Net P189 Million in Narcotics
In a significant blow to narcotics trafficking, authorities at Clark Freeport conducted two high-stakes operations over the weekend, resulting in the seizure of illegal drugs with a combined street value of approximately P189 million. The coordinated efforts led to the confiscation of shabu and kush, alongside the apprehension of suspects involved in the smuggling attempts.
P119 Million Shabu Shipment Intercepted from Las Vegas
The Bureau of Customs Port of Clark reported intercepting a shipment originating from Las Vegas, Nevada, which contained 17,500 grams of shabu. This haul has an estimated street value of P119 million. The cargo, destined for Makati City, was flagged based on critical intelligence provided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Upon its arrival, the parcel underwent rigorous screening procedures. An initial X-ray scan revealed unusual images, prompting further inspection. A subsequent K-9 sweep indicated the presence of suspected dangerous drugs, leading authorities to conduct a full physical examination. This investigation uncovered two black rectangular resin blocks containing white crystalline substances, which laboratory testing later confirmed to be shabu.
P70 Million Kush Seized from Chinese Nationals at Clark Airport
In a separate operation on Saturday, March 7, 2026, authorities at Clark International Airport apprehended three Chinese nationals and intercepted nearly P70 million worth of kush. The illegal drugs were discovered during a routine inspection, highlighting the vigilance of customs officials.
The suspects have been identified as Ang See, aged 39; Kim Tan, aged 27; and Li Cheng, aged 30. They were found carrying three pieces of luggage containing 99 packs of dried leaves and fruiting tops, believed to be high-grade marijuana, locally known as kush. The seized narcotics weighed approximately 46,533.3 grams, with a street value of P69,799,950.
The Bureau of Customs Clark noted that the suspects were transit passengers who had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, and were bound for Hong Kong via Clark. The Chinese nationals are currently under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Central Luzon, pending further legal proceedings.
Collaborative Efforts and Legal Actions
The confiscated illegal drugs are set to be submitted to the PDEA Regional Office 3 laboratory for comprehensive forensic examination. This operation was a collaborative success, involving multiple agencies working in tandem to combat drug trafficking.
Key participating agencies included:
- The Bureau of Customs Port of Clark
- PDEA offices in Clark and Pampanga
- The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group Special Operations Unit 3
- PNP Aviation Security Unit 3
- The National Bureau of Investigation Pampanga District Office
The suspects now face serious charges in court for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes stringent penalties for drug-related offenses, underscoring the government's commitment to eradicating illegal narcotics from the country.
These operations demonstrate the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation and advanced screening technologies in disrupting drug smuggling networks. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of vigilance and intelligence-sharing in safeguarding communities from the dangers of illicit substances.
