A police officer who was captured on video physically assaulting his live-in partner has been relieved from his post and placed under restrictive custody pending an investigation, authorities said Monday.
Incident Details
In a press conference at Camp Crame, Malolos City Police chief Lieutenant Colonel Rommel Geneblazo confirmed that charges are being prepared against a police corporal assigned to the local station for violation of Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act.
The viral video shows the policeman repeatedly punching his live-in partner in the face and body after she slapped him. After a punch to the stomach, the woman slowly fell face down on the ground, asking for help. Moments later, she stood up and struck the officer again, prompting him to pin her down and choke her while allegedly attempting to draw his service pistol from his waist.
Investigation and Actions
Geneblazo said that based on the victim's account, the incident occurred on the evening of March 12, 2026. She stated it was the second time the officer had physically harmed her.
“Yesterday, his issued firearms, along with his PNP identification card, were already confiscated, and he is now under the administrative holding section of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office. When I spoke to our police officer, he said he was also shocked by what happened,” Geneblazo said.
He added that the altercation stemmed from a misunderstanding after the officer turned off his location-sharing feature, which angered the woman.
The victim is currently staying at the police station for her protection following the video's widespread circulation. Geneblazo noted that the administrative complaint could result in the officer's dismissal from service.
