Davao City Police Mobilize 1,434 Personnel for Ramadan Security Operations

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has launched a comprehensive security initiative, deploying 1,434 police and security personnel to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of Ramadan. The holy month commenced on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on March 20, with authorities implementing robust measures to protect worshippers and maintain public order throughout this significant period.

Enhanced Security Measures for Mosques and Crowded Areas

During a press briefing with the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps on February 18, DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Tuazon detailed the extensive preparations. She emphasized that daily police deployments have been strategically assigned to cover all 27 mosques across Davao City, with personnel stationed in key locations to monitor activities and respond to any incidents. Tuazon clarified that the 1,434 figure represents the core police force, with additional support expected from other security and safety clusters to augment operations further.

"We already have security deployment lined up for Ramadan. We have daily security coverage for the 27 mosques," Tuazon stated, underscoring the proactive approach. Beyond mosque security, authorities will vigilantly monitor other venues anticipated to attract large crowds, particularly during prayer times and community gatherings, to prevent disruptions and ensure public safety.

Community Collaboration and Peaceful Celebrations

The primary objective of this security mobilization is to facilitate a smooth and incident-free Ramadan celebration. Tuazon acknowledged that while achieving perfection in crime prevention is challenging, the initiative reflects the strength of community partnerships and effective peace and order programs. "Our goal is to have a smooth and peaceful celebration with low crime incidents. It may not be perfect that nothing will happen in every corner, but this shows the strength of our community and our peace and order programs," she added, highlighting the collaborative effort between law enforcement and residents.

Official Announcement of Ramadan Start and Coordination Efforts

In related developments, Sheikh Abdulrauf A. Guialani formally announced the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijri on February 18. This declaration followed official moon-sighting activities conducted by the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta', which deployed authorized teams across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other parts of the country. As the crescent moon was not sighted on Tuesday, 29 Sha'ban 1447 H (corresponding to February 17, 2026), the month of Sha'ban completed 30 days, and fasting for Ramadan commenced on February 19, 2026, In Shaa Allah.

The DCPO has committed to ongoing coordination with other security forces and public safety groups to safeguard all Ramadan-related activities. Authorities are optimistic about sustaining a zero-incident record, noting that in recent years, Davao City has observed Ramadan without major security concerns, reinforcing the effectiveness of these comprehensive security strategies.
