Key Dawlah Islamiya Leader Killed in North Cotabato Clash with Government Troops
Government troops have successfully eliminated a key leader of the Dawlah Islamiya terrorist organization in a clash that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026. The operation took place in Tinimbacan village, Banisilan, North Cotabato, marking a significant blow to the local terrorist network in Central Mindanao.
Details of the Clash and Identification of the Slain Leader
Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, commander of the 6th Infantry Division, confirmed that the clash lasted approximately three minutes, beginning at 1:45 a.m. The slain leader was identified as Emarudin Kulaw, also known by the alias "Alpha King." Kulaw served as a former Amir and leader of the DI-Hassan group, a faction within the Dawlah Islamiya.
Kulaw had been a wanted figure for numerous criminal cases, including multiple counts of attempted murder, destructive arson, and violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020. Authorities described him as a notorious and elusive local terrorist leader linked to several violent incidents that posed serious threats to communities across Central Mindanao.
Military Response and Recovery
Personnel from the 601st Infantry Brigade and 602nd Infantry Brigade reported no casualties among government troops during the operation. At the site of the clash, troops recovered a high-powered firearm, further disrupting the capabilities of the terrorist group.
Lieutenant General Donald Gumiran, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, commended the troops for their successful operation. He emphasized that military actions against terrorist elements will continue relentlessly until peace and security are fully restored in the region.
Call for Cooperation and Abandonment of Violence
Gumiran issued a direct appeal to the remaining members of local terrorist groups operating within the Westmincom area, urging them to abandon violence and surrender to authorities. He highlighted the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and stability.
"Community cooperation remains a vital component in sustaining peace and stability in the region," Gumiran stated. He encouraged residents to provide timely information to the military and police regarding any lawless armed groups, reinforcing the collaborative effort needed to combat terrorism effectively.
