Drug Den Maintainer Killed in Intense Shootout During Bangsamoro Anti-Drug Operation

A drug den maintainer was fatally shot, and four other individuals were apprehended during a high-stakes anti-drug operation conducted by authorities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The incident unfolded on Thursday, March 12, in Nabundas village, Malidegao, within the Special Geographic Area of the region.

Deadly Confrontation Erupts During Raid

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in BARMM reported that the operation targeted a suspect known by the alias Ola, who was identified as the primary subject. According to PDEA-BARMM, the situation escalated when Ola opened fire on the operatives, prompting them to return fire in self-defense. This led to a fierce shootout that lasted for approximately 20 minutes.

After the exchange of gunfire, Ola was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. The operation successfully resulted in the dismantling of the drug den that Ola was maintaining, marking a significant blow to local drug trafficking activities.

Arrests and Seizures Following the Raid

In the aftermath of the shootout, PDEA-BARMM operatives arrested four additional suspects who were caught engaging in a pot session inside the drug den. The individuals were identified through their aliases as:

  • Gapor, aged 32
  • Edward, aged 34
  • Mata, aged 19
  • Butsokoy, aged 45

Authorities confiscated a substantial amount of evidence from the scene, including:

  • Approximately 20 grams of suspected shabu, packed in 27 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets, with an estimated street value of P136,000
  • Assorted drug paraphernalia used in the distribution and consumption of illegal substances
  • A caliber 7.65 pistol, three rounds of ammunition, a belt bag, two identification cards, cash, five mobile phones, and a rifle scope

Legal Charges and Collaborative Efforts

The PDEA-BARMM has announced that the arrested suspects will face charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. This operation was a coordinated effort, launched by PDEA-BARMM operatives with crucial support from troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion, highlighting the collaborative approach in combating drug-related crimes in the region.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges and risks faced by law enforcement agencies in their relentless fight against illegal drug operations in the Bangsamoro area.
