A 59-year-old Greek national was rushed to the hospital after being stabbed by his brother-in-law, who became angry when asked to lower loud music. The incident occurred at around 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Barangay Sagay, Toledo City.

Victim and Suspect Identified

The victim has been identified as Themis, a Greek national married to the suspect's sister. The suspect, Alberto, 69, is a widower and also resides in the same area. He was apprehended through hot pursuit operations by the Toledo City Police Station.

Details of the Incident

According to police investigation, the victim and his wife had just arrived home from Cebu City. Themis, tired and weak from driving, immediately went to his room to sleep. However, he was awakened by the loud music coming from the adjacent house where his brother-in-law was drinking.

The victim got up and approached the suspect to ask him to lower the volume. Instead, the intoxicated suspect became enraged, grabbed his 19-inch bolo knife, and stabbed the victim.

Injuries and Background

The Greek national sustained stab wounds on his left eyebrow area and left lip. Police Lieutenant Colonel Atty. Verniño Noserale, chief of the Toledo City Police Station, told Superbalita Cebu that their investigation revealed a prior conflict between the two parties.

Police responding to the scene recovered the knife used in the crime. Charges of frustrated homicide are being prepared against the suspect.
