Major Drug Bust in Iloilo City Nets P578,000 Worth of Shabu

In a significant anti-drug operation, police forces in Iloilo City successfully seized approximately 85 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P578,000. The drug bust took place in Barangay Rizal, located within the La Paz District of Iloilo City, at 9:35 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Coordinated Police Operation Leads to Arrest

The suspect, identified only by the alias Peter, is a 54-year-old resident of La Paz District. His arrest was the result of a joint operation involving multiple specialized police units. These included the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of the ICPO, the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) in Western Visayas, and the Iloilo City Police Station (ICPS) 2-Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET).

Recovered Evidence and Police Commendation

During the operation, authorities recovered seven heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing the illegal substance, along with buy-bust money and several non-drug items. Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, the regional director of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6), praised the involved units for their vigilance and professionalism.

"The successful seizure of illegal drugs reflects the vigilance, professionalism, and dedication of our police personnel in safeguarding the public," Ligan stated. "These operations send a clear message that PRO 6 will continue to intensify its campaign against illegal drugs to protect our youth and communities. We remain committed to enforcing the law fairly and relentlessly, in close partnership with the public, to ensure a safer and drug-free Western Visayas."

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Campaign

The arrested suspect is currently detained at ICPS 2, where he awaits proper disposition and the filing of appropriate charges. The charges are expected to include violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This operation highlights the intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign spearheaded by PRO 6, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated efforts among various police units in the region.
