In a significant enforcement action, police on Camotes Island in Cebu confiscated a truck loaded with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) canisters that lacked the required permits. The incident occurred during a routine checkpoint operation in Barangay Southern Poblacion, Tudela, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Details of the Seizure and Violations
The Tudela Municipal Police Station conducted the checkpoint and stopped a truck for inspection. The vehicle was registered to Daisy, a 34-year-old resident of Kingfisher Street, Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, and was driven by Rodel from Mabao, Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. Upon inspection, authorities found that the truck was transporting LPG cylinders and cartridges without the necessary permits and certification from the Department of Energy.

An inventory of the seized items revealed 152 boxes containing 6,096 butane canisters and 62 additional boxes with 2,480 butane canisters, totaling an estimated value of P133,760. The vehicle and all confiscated LPG canisters are now in the custody of the Tudela Municipal Police Station for further documentation and legal proceedings.
Police Response and Public Safety Concerns
Police Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., the provincial police chief of Cebu, praised his personnel for their vigilance in intercepting the prohibited shipment. He emphasized the serious risks to public safety posed by transporting LPG products without proper authorization. "The transport of LPG products without proper authorization poses serious risks to public safety. We will continue to intensify checkpoint operations to ensure that all regulatory laws are strictly enforced. Compliance with the LPG Industry Regulation Act is essential to protect lives and properties," said Mangelen.
A case has been prepared against the driver for violating Republic Act 11592, underscoring the authorities' commitment to enforcing safety regulations in the LPG industry. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts to prevent potential hazards associated with unregulated transport of hazardous materials.
