Major Drug Bust in Iloilo City Nets P6.8 Million in Shabu

Police operatives in Iloilo City scored a significant victory in the war against drugs after arresting a high-value individual and confiscating approximately 60 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P6.8 million. The successful buy-bust operation took place in Barangay Navais, Mandurriao District on Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2025.

Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrest

The operation was conducted around 2:40 p.m. through the combined efforts of the Iloilo City Police Office – City Drug Enforcement Unit, Iloilo City Police Station 10, and the Regional Intelligence Unit in Western Visayas. Authorities identified the suspect only as alias Dev, a 35-year-old high-value individual who was temporarily residing in Mandurriao.

During the operation, police recovered eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, along with buy-bust money and various non-drug items as evidence. The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently detained while awaiting formal charges.

Police Leadership Commends Operatives

Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, regional director of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6), praised the operating teams for their successful drug confiscation and arrest. "I commend the dedication of our operating units on the ground," Ligan stated. "This accomplishment reflects our unwavering commitment to eradicate the drug menace in our communities and sends a strong warning to those who continue to engage in illegal activities."

The PRO 6 director also called for continued public support in the campaign against illegal drugs, emphasizing that "together we can build a safer, more peaceful, and drug-free region."

Serious Charges Await Suspect

Authorities confirmed that formal charges will be filed against the suspect for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. These offenses carry severe penalties under Philippine law, including:

  • Life imprisonment to death
  • Fines ranging from P500,000 to P10 million

The successful operation demonstrates the continued vigilance of Iloilo City police in combating the illegal drug trade and protecting communities from substance abuse.
