A passenger was injured after being stabbed by a fellow passenger at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Sitio Campo, Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City.
The victim, identified as alias Ronron, 26, single, a driver from Barangay Poblacion, Asturias town, sustained stab wounds to his back and chest.
The suspect, alias Leo, 49, a carpenter from Jagna, Barangay Nagbalaye, Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, is now detained at the Carcar City Police Station.
Police Staff Sergeant Argie Noel Espinosa, investigator of the Carcar Police Station, told SunStar Superbalita Cebu that the victim said he boarded a Ceres bus in Lawaan, Talisay City, heading to his work at a poultry farm in Dumanjug town.
The suspect boarded the bus in San Fernando town, and the victim noticed he was already drunk while sitting behind him. According to the victim, the suspect kept standing up, and he was alarmed by the suspect's glaring eyes as he stared at him and other passengers.
Due to his concern, the victim stayed alert and watched the suspect's movements. Suddenly, the suspect stood up, pulled out a knife, and attempted to stab the victim in the back. Fortunately, the victim blocked it, resulting in only a minor wound on his back.
During the struggle, the victim was wounded in the chest. Despite this, the victim defended himself until he managed to grab the knife and neutralize the suspect.
Barangay tanods and police from Carcar City quickly responded and handcuffed the suspect. Police recovered the knife, which was 18 inches long.
“He admitted that the crime was committed due to drunkenness. He allegedly thought the victim had a weapon and would shoot him, so he stabbed him first,” PSSGT Espinosa said, explaining the suspect's statement.
The suspect claimed he does not remember boarding the bus because he was drunk. Police have prepared an attempted homicide case against the suspect.
