Philippine Military Vows Uninterrupted West Philippine Sea Operations Amid Fuel Crisis

Despite the spiraling fuel prices triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, all military activities related to protecting the West Philippine Sea (WPS) will proceed without interruption, according to a senior Philippine Navy official. The announcement was made during a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Operational Mandate to Continue Unabated

Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, the Philippine Navy spokesperson for the WPS, emphasized that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will fulfill its operational duties as mandated. "All activities of the AFP for this year that are operational in nature will continue. It's our mandate that should be performed," he stated firmly. He reassured the public that the AFP remains committed to protecting the country's sovereignty and territories, regardless of external economic pressures.

Energy Conservation Measures for Administrative Offices

Meanwhile, AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla provided additional details on how the military is adapting to the looming oil crisis. She explained that while administrative offices may adjust work arrangements to conserve energy, operational missions will not be affected. "We already have energy conservation measures in support of the greater national effort. So, while administrative offices may eventually adjust our work arrangements, depending on the guidelines that are going to be set, our operational missions will continue 24/7," Padilla affirmed.

She highlighted that these uninterrupted operations include:

  • Territorial defense, particularly in the West Philippine Sea
  • Disaster response efforts across the nation
  • Internal security operations to maintain peace and order

Padilla stressed that the AFP is prepared to implement appropriate measures to ensure its primary mission—protecting the Filipino people and safeguarding national security—remains fully operational. "We will continue to fulfill them," she added, underscoring the military's resilience in the face of economic challenges.

The statements from both officials come at a critical time when global fuel prices are surging due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The Philippine military's proactive approach aims to balance energy efficiency with unwavering defense commitments, ensuring that national security priorities are not compromised by external economic factors.
