PNP-CIDG Suspects Atong Ang Was Forewarned of Arrest Warrant, Hindering Capture Efforts
The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has expressed suspicions that businessman Atong Ang was aware and prepared for the issuance of an arrest warrant against him. This belief stems from the extensive resources and nationwide connections that Ang possesses, according to PNP-CIDG National Capital Region Chief, PCol. John Guiagui.
Challenges in Locating the Fugitive Businessman
Police officials have admitted that tracking down Ang's whereabouts has proven difficult due to his vast network. However, Col. Guiagui emphasized that this does not impede their ongoing manhunt operation. The agency remains confident that Ang is still active and within the country's borders, as there is no record of him leaving the Philippines.
Authorities are intensifying their search efforts, relying on tips and information from their hotline to verify leads. This comes amid earlier claims by whistleblower Julie Patidongan, who implicated Ang in the disappearance of sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts) and suggested he had already fled abroad.
Investigation Expands to Include Police Personnel
In a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday, PNP spokesperson PBGEN Randulf T. Tuaño revealed that the investigation is now extending to active and retired police officers, including senior officials, who may be assisting Ang. This development adds a layer of complexity to the case, highlighting potential internal challenges within law enforcement.
Currently, two arrest warrants have been issued against Ang from courts in Laguna and Batangas. A P10 million bounty remains on his head for his capture, underscoring the seriousness of the charges and the authorities' determination to bring him to justice.
The PNP-CIDG continues to urge the public to report any information that could lead to Ang's arrest, as they work tirelessly to resolve this high-profile case.
