PNP Chief Nartatez Orders Heightened Security at Energy Facilities Amid National Emergency

In response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s declaration of a State of National Energy Emergency, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has directed the strengthening of security operations at critical energy facilities across the country. The emergency declaration, formalized through Executive Order 110 on March 24, 2026, aims to address rising fuel costs and supply disruptions with the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (Uplift) program.

Police on Heightened Alert to Safeguard Infrastructure

In a recent statement, Nartatez emphasized that police forces are on heightened alert to prevent any disruption or exploitation of the situation. Additional personnel have been deployed to protect key infrastructure, including substations, transmission lines, power plants, and fuel stations. "We will maintain a strong presence in gas stations and energy plants to ensure that there will be no supply disruption," Nartatez stated, underscoring the PNP's commitment to securing these vital assets.

Ensuring Continuity of Police Services and Community Safety

Despite the energy emergency, Nartatez assured that police operations will continue without interruption. Stations have implemented contingency measures, such as backup power systems, to maintain service. "Tuloy-tuloy ang serbisyo ng pulisya—hindi tayo titigil kahit may power interruptions," he said, translating to "Police services continue uninterrupted—we will not stop even during power interruptions." Authorities are also focusing on maintaining peace and order in communities, particularly in areas affected by power outages, with increased night patrols to deter criminal activity during the crisis.

Public Advisory and Whole-of-Government Approach

The PNP has urged the public to take precautions during brownouts, advising residents to secure their homes, avoid leaving candles unattended, and remain vigilant. The emergency declaration activates a whole-of-government approach to stabilize energy supply and ensure the continuity of essential public services, highlighting a coordinated effort to mitigate the impact of the energy crisis on key sectors.
