PNP Chief Expresses Confidence in Convictions for Bulacan Police Killings

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has voiced strong optimism regarding the legal proceedings for two high-profile murder cases involving police officers in Bulacan. In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Nartatez emphasized that the evidence gathered by investigators is robust and likely to secure convictions in court.

Details of the Cases and Investigative Efforts

The first case involves the brutal killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael. Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla declared this case solved following the arrest of two alleged masterminds, who were identified as the policewoman's godchildren, and the surrender of two accomplices. Nartatez praised the investigative team, stating, Our investigators in both cases really did their job to solve the cases since Day 1. All angles were pursued, and all pieces of evidence were obtained and meticulously reviewed to build a strong case.

The second case concerns the death of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casauay Jr., whose remains were discovered in a septic tank of a house in Malolos, Bulacan. Secretary Remulla indicated that this killing is linked to Casauay's duties as a member of the Police Drug Enforcement Unit. So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with this crime, including a Police Corporal who allegedly failed to apprehend the primary suspect, Julian Salamat, after Salamat confessed to him.

Ongoing Manhunt and Reward Offer

General Nartatez highlighted that the PNP's current focus is on apprehending all remaining suspects in Casauay's case, particularly the gunman Julian Salamat. He welcomed Secretary Remulla's decision to offer a P1-million reward for the arrest of Salamat and other charged suspects, noting that this incentive will aid in the pursuit efforts. With the evidence we have to support the cases, we are confident that there is a certainty of conviction in court against those involved, Nartatez added, underscoring the PNP's commitment to justice.

Commitment to Law Enforcement and Public Safety

In his remarks, Nartatez commended the dedication and hard work of PNP personnel from commanders to ground-level officers in solving these cases. He stated, I commend all our personnel, from the commanders down to our personnel on the ground, for their hard work and dedication in solving these two cases. Furthermore, he reinforced the PNP's mission, saying, This only proves the PNP's commitment to enforcing the law against violators, ensuring justice for the victims, and bringing peace of mind to the Filipino people. The cases continue to develop as authorities work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
