PNP Probes P2.5M Threat vs Cebu Governor Baricuatro

PNP Chief Directs Full Investigation into Alleged P2.5 Million Assassination Plot Against Cebu Governor

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the reported death threat against Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro. The directive comes after Governor Baricuatro publicly disclosed receiving information about a serious security risk involving an alleged hired gunman from Mindanao.

Heightened Security Measures Implemented Across Central Visayas

General Nartatez has instructed police units in Central Visayas to significantly enhance their intelligence monitoring and security operations. According to the PNP chief, this mobilization of regional personnel aims not only to strengthen protective measures but also to actively identify and pursue those responsible for the threat.

The governor revealed that the alleged plot involves a P2.5 million payment to carry out the assassination attempt, which is reportedly planned to occur outside Cebu Province. While authorities continue to verify this information, the PNP chief has ordered the deployment of additional tactical security personnel to ensure no breaches occur in the governor's security detail.

Additional Police Personnel Assigned for Governor's Protection

During a press conference, PNP Public Information Office chief BGen. Randulf Tuaño confirmed that the PNP chief has directed the assignment of fourteen additional police officers as security aides for Governor Baricuatro. "At any given day she will have seven additional guards, and when they rotate shifts tomorrow, there will be another seven," explained Tuaño.

The PNP strongly condemned any form of threat against individuals, particularly elected government officials. This security enhancement represents a significant response to what authorities are treating as a credible and serious threat to the Cebu governor's safety.
