In a significant enforcement action, authorities in Tudela, Camotes Island, have confiscated a large quantity of butane canisters from a truck that was found to be operating without the necessary documentation. The seizure occurred during a routine checkpoint operation conducted by the Tudela Municipal Police Station on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

The incident unfolded when police officers stopped a van truck for inspection at Barangay Southern Poblacion in Tudela. Upon examination, they discovered the vehicle was laden with Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders and cartridges. The driver, identified as alias Rodel from Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City, was operating the truck registered under alias Daisy, a 34-year-old resident of Kingfisher Street, Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.
However, during the inspection, the driver failed to produce any permit or certification from the Department of Energy. This omission constitutes a violation of Section 38 (c) (6) of Republic Act 11592, commonly known as the LPG Industry Regulation Act of 2021, which mandates strict compliance for the transport of such hazardous materials.
Inventory and Value of Confiscated Items
An inventory conducted by the police revealed a substantial haul of butane canisters. Specifically, authorities seized 152 boxes containing 6,096 filled butane canisters and an additional 62 boxes with 2,480 empty butane canisters. The total estimated value of the confiscated items amounts to approximately P133,760, underscoring the scale of the operation.
The Tudela Municipal Police Station has taken custody of both the vehicle and the butane canisters to facilitate further documentation and legal proceedings related to the case.

Police Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., the chief of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, commended his personnel for their vigilance during the checkpoint operation.
