Westmincom Claims Overall Champion Title at Philippine Army Funshoot 2026
Team Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) has emerged as the Overall Champion in the Katihan Steel Challenge during the recently concluded Philippine Army Funshoot 2026. The event took place on Saturday, March 21, at the Philippine Army Firing Range in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, as confirmed by the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) in a statement released on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
Elite Team Composition and Performance
The victorious Westmincom team comprised Commanders and Division Sergeant Majors from three Joint Task Forces: Zampelan, Central, and Orion. Key participants included Major General Leonardo Peña, commander of JTF-Orion; Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., commander of JTF-Zampelan; and Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, commander of JTF-Central. They were supported by their respective Division Sergeant Majors: Chief Master Sergeant Felipe Bautista (JTF-Orion), Chief Master Sergeant Wenceslao Galacio (JTF-Zampelan), and Senior Master Sergeant Jonathan Albiso (JTF-Central).
According to the 1ID, the team displayed exceptional marksmanship, consistency on the range, and strong coordination throughout the competition, highlighting their dedication and skill in a high-pressure environment.

The awarding ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete, the Philippine Army Commanding General, who honored the winners for their outstanding achievements. The Philippine Army Funshoot is an annual event that forms a crucial part of the Army's marksmanship program and anniversary activities.
