In a significant blow to illegal drug activities in the region, anti-drug operatives successfully dismantled a drug den and arrested three high-value individuals (HVIs) during a targeted law enforcement operation in Zamboanga City. The raid, which took place on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Tugbungan village, marks a crucial step in the ongoing campaign against narcotics in the area.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
According to Bryan Babang III, the director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for the Zamboanga Peninsula, the suspects were apprehended in a meticulously planned buy-bust operation. The three HVIs, identified by their aliases as Robert, Cryssam, and Arjay, were taken into custody as authorities moved to shut down their illicit activities.
Recovered Evidence and Charges
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered substantial evidence from the drug den. This included approximately seven grams of suspected shabu, which was packed in eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is P47,600. Additionally, buy-bust money and various illegal drug paraphernalia were seized, further solidifying the case against the suspects.
The arrested individuals will face serious legal consequences, as they are set to be charged with multiple violations under Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Specifically, they will be prosecuted for breaches of Sections 5, 6, 7, 13, and 14 of this law, which cover offenses such as sale, maintenance of a drug den, and possession of dangerous drugs.
Commendation and Collaborative Efforts
Director Babang praised the operatives involved for their relentless and dedicated efforts in the fight against illegal drugs. He emphasized that this successful operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curb drug-related crimes in Zamboanga City and beyond.
The anti-drug operation was a collaborative effort, launched by the Regional Special Enforcement Team-1 with crucial support from Zamboanga City Police Station 6. This joint initiative highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing complex security challenges and ensuring public safety.
As the investigation continues, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of other individuals involved in the drug trade, aiming to dismantle more networks and protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
