The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSPPO) has initiated a rigorous five-day training program focused on improving the firearms proficiency of its officers. The intensive course commenced on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, and is designed to sharpen the tactical skills of selected personnel under its command.
Focus on Tactical Excellence and Real-World Scenarios
According to Police Colonel Barnard Danie Dasugo, the director of ZSPPO, the curriculum is heavily centered on Closed-Quarter Battle (CQB) techniques and scenario-based tactical drills. This approach moves beyond basic marksmanship to simulate high-pressure situations that officers might encounter in the field.
Colonel Dasugo emphasized that the primary objective of the Firearm Proficiency Training is to equip police personnel with enhanced shooting accuracy, a solid grasp of CQB fundamentals, and the critical decision-making skills required during real-life operations. The training involves personnel from the ZSPPO's 16 municipal police stations, ensuring a wide reach across the province.
Strengthening Community Protection and Response
The significance of the training was underscored by Police Brigadier General Edwin Quilates, the director of the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula, who served as the keynote speaker for the event's launch. General Quilates highlighted the program's vital role in bolstering overall police preparedness.
He stated that this intensive program is crucial for ensuring that law enforcement can deliver swift, efficient, and effective responses to critical threats within the community. By honing their capabilities, the police force aims to guarantee greater precision, safety, and operational readiness during high-pressure incidents, ultimately leading to better protection for the residents of Zamboanga Sibugay.
The five-day Firearm Proficiency Training represents a proactive step by the ZSPPO to maintain a high standard of operational excellence and public safety through continuous skill development of its officers.
