Philippine Army Battalions Conduct Humanitarian Activities for Valentine's Day

In a heartwarming display of service and compassion, two Philippine Army battalions based in Iloilo carried out separate humanitarian and community outreach activities in the provinces of Capiz and Iloilo to commemorate Valentine's Day. These initiatives highlight the military's commitment to supporting local communities beyond their traditional security roles.

Blood Donation Drive in Roxas City, Capiz

The 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) actively participated in a Philippine Red Cross bloodletting activity held in Roxas City, Capiz, on February 14, 2026. The event, titled "Dugo Mo Sugpon sa Kabuhi Ko Part 7", took place at the School Division Office in Barangay Banica. This blood donation drive aimed to replenish local blood supplies urgently needed for patients undergoing surgery, dialysis, and emergency medical procedures.

Lieutenant Colonel Richard Caliva, leading the 12IB, emphasized that this involvement forms a crucial part of the battalion's dedication to community service, extending well beyond its primary security mandate. Personnel from various agencies, including the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and local teachers, also joined the effort, showcasing a collaborative spirit.

Community Outreach in Igbaras, Iloilo

Simultaneously, the 61st Infantry Battalion (61IB) organized a community outreach program in Barangay Indaluyon, Igbaras, Iloilo. Under the theme "A Mission of Love: A Valentine for Hunter Troopers", this activity was coordinated with barangay officials, led by Punong Barangay Carlito Eclar, and facilitated by Bravo Company under 1st Lieutenant Andrian Latigay.

Lieutenant Colonel Jekyll Julian Dulawan, commanding officer of the 61IB, stated that the mission aims to secure communities while demonstrating genuine compassion for the people. "Through activities like this, we remind everyone that the government is here to support and protect them," Dulawan said. He further added that the unit continues to encourage those involved in armed struggles to choose peace and surrender, becoming partners in building a progressive and harmonious community.

Additional Support and Engagement Efforts

Prior to the blood donation drive, the 12IB conducted morale visits to Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary (CAA) detachments in Malitbog and Roxas 8 in Tapaz, Capiz, on February 9 and 10. During these visits, the battalion leadership held a "Talk to Troops" session to assess the welfare of personnel serving as force multipliers. The unit distributed essential supplies, including rice, canned goods, and cash assistance for food augmentation, to support the auxiliaries.

The 12IB noted that regular engagement ensures auxiliaries remain motivated while performing their duties in remote and challenging areas. This proactive approach underscores the military's holistic strategy in fostering community resilience and development.

Commitment to Peace and Development

Both the 12IB, based in Calinog, and the 61IB, based in Miagao, continue to actively support peace and development initiatives across Western Visayas. The 61IB highlighted that its outreach activities emphasize a commitment to people-centered initiatives and community development, particularly in geographically isolated and underserved areas.

These Valentine's Day activities not only provided immediate humanitarian aid but also strengthened the bond between the military and local communities, reinforcing a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous region. The efforts reflect a broader trend of the Philippine Army integrating civic actions into its operations to enhance public trust and societal well-being.
