The Department of Justice (DOJ) has assured the public that the case involving the disappearance of sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts) continues to move forward. Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida stated that the prosecution remains steadfast in fulfilling its mandate and that the case is progressing steadily.
Prosecution focused on accountability
Secretary Vida emphasized that prosecutors are determined to hold accountable those behind the disappearances, particularly businessman Charlie 'Atong' Ang and other co-accused individuals. He stressed that the prosecution's investigation is anchored on the truth and that their attention remains focused on evidence.
Allegations of financial assistance
The secretary's statement came after reports that Atong Ang's camp had provided money to the families of the victims. However, Vida clarified that such assistance does not directly affect the case, as the investigation is based on facts and solid evidence. He added that even if witnesses recant, the case will not be compromised because it relies on strong evidence, including object or real evidence.
