This pivotal event took place on Saturday, February 14, during a Localized Peace Engagement held at the headquarters of the 101st Infantry Battalion, initiated by the 1102nd Infantry Brigade.

Commitment to Dialogue and Unity

The 11th Infantry Division (11ID) reported that the signing ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Alaric Avelino Delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade. The gathering brought together 10 MNLF leaders, community representatives, and security partners, fostering a collaborative environment focused on peacebuilding. Discussions during the engagement centered on the critical importance of unity, open dialogue, and community responsibility in sustaining peace initiatives across the region.

Brigadier General Delos Santos emphasized that achieving lasting peace requires continuous dialogue and a shared sense of responsibility among all parties involved. His remarks underscored the military's commitment to working hand-in-hand with local communities to prevent conflicts and promote harmony.

Strengthening Cooperation for Stability

Major General Leonardo Peña, commander of the 11th Infantry Division, highlighted the vital role of cooperation between the military and community leaders in preventing conflict and ensuring long-term stability. He noted that such partnerships are essential for addressing the root causes of violence and fostering a secure environment for residents.

The MNLF leaders who participated in the activity expressed their firm commitment to supporting Rido-Free and Gun-Free programs, pledging to actively promote harmony within their respective communities. Their involvement marks a crucial step in bridging gaps and building trust between different groups in Sulu.

Inter-Agency Collaboration in Peacebuilding

The Localized Peace Engagement also saw the participation of the Omar Municipal Police Station, highlighting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in peacebuilding efforts. This collaborative approach ensures that various stakeholders are aligned in their goals and can effectively implement peace initiatives on the ground.

The signing of the Pledge of Support symbolizes the collective commitment of all stakeholders to uphold peace in the municipalities of Omar and Luuk. It represents a unified effort to create safer, more peaceful communities where residents can thrive without the threat of violence or conflict.

This initiative builds on previous efforts to declare these areas as Gun-Free and Rido-Free zones, reinforcing the ongoing dedication to peace and stability in Sulu. The event serves as a model for future peace engagements, demonstrating how dialogue and cooperation can lead to tangible improvements in community safety and well-being.
