Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V has called on Vice President Sara Duterte to personally attend the scheduled impeachment trial on July 6 to address the allegations against her. Ortega expressed doubt that the Vice President would appear, citing her previous absences from congressional hearings, but emphasized that the trial provides the proper venue for her to explain her side.
Public Awaits Answers
Ortega stated that the public has long been waiting for responses regarding the issues raised against Duterte. He stressed that the House prosecution panel is ready to present evidence and witnesses at the start of the trial.
Articles of Impeachment
Duterte faces four articles of impeachment related to the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Trial Date Set
The impeachment trial is set to begin in the Senate on Monday, July 6. According to Ortega, the trial is the right opportunity for Duterte to clarify the accusations against her.
