Bullying sparked the conflict

Luciana Sareño, 63, a widow and the victim's older sister, said her brother was angered by Seldon's constant taunts. She stated that Seldon would repeatedly call Sareño 'gwapo' (handsome) after Sareño was released from the Cebu City Jail.

She revealed that her brother had only been out of prison for three months after serving a three-year sentence for illegal drugs. Every time they met the suspect, he would mock Sareño by saying, 'You're so handsome now,' 'Your skin has become fair,' and 'You've gained weight.'

Threats and retaliation

According to Bais, another witness, the victim was seen carrying a piece of wood and a metal rod and threatening to hit the suspect if they crossed paths.

When the two met, the victim allegedly struck the suspect, who retaliated by stabbing Sareño. The victim died from his wounds.
