Woman stabbed to death by jealous partner
A 33-year-old woman died after being repeatedly stabbed with scissors by her live-in partner in a fit of jealousy. The incident occurred on Saturday night, July 4, 2026, in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Dumlog, Toledo City.
Victim identified
The victim was identified as An-an Traya Mañacap, who suffered stab wounds to her forehead, face, and neck, leading to her death. Her stepfather, Pedro Madrid Rizal, 63, was also injured while trying to save her.
Suspect arrested
The suspect, Cyril Cabaluna, 40, a slaughterhouse worker and resident of Barangay Talavera, was arrested through a hot pursuit operation at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, in Barangay Cambang-ug, Toledo City.
Motive: jealousy and drugs
Police Lieutenant Colonel Verniño Noserale, chief of the Toledo City Police Station, said extreme jealousy aggravated by the suspect's use of illegal drugs was the primary motive. He described their relationship as "on-and-off, very toxic" and noted that the suspect was known as a drug user and extremely jealous.
History of violence
The couple frequently argued due to the suspect's behavior. Despite his history of violence—including a previous arrest for Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) after the victim filed a complaint—they continued their relationship.
According to police, the victim was cooking in their kitchen around 8:30 p.m. when the suspect suddenly entered and stabbed her with scissors without warning. Pedro tried to intervene by hitting the suspect with an iron bar, but the suspect wrestled it away and struck the stepfather, who fortunately survived the attack.
Mañacap was rushed to Toledo City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Gia Alyssa Ponferrada.
Arrest and charges
With the help of the suspect's relatives and neighbors cooperating with police, authorities quickly located Cabaluna the following morning. The Toledo City Police Station is preparing formal murder charges against the suspect.
