A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a motorcycle that was parked with the keys still attached in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Incident Details
The victim, Mario Torres Obera, 33, sought police assistance after his black Honda Beat motorcycle disappeared. The incident occurred at around 7:50 a.m. in Sitio Camagayan, Barangay Perrelos.
According to the victim, he brought his motorcycle to a vulcanizing shop in the area for repairs. The mechanic, Midie Magale Lapas, 29, was working on it. Obera parked the motorcycle along the road but forgot to remove the key when he left.
Mechanic's Account
The mechanic stated that he saw the suspect, identified as Niño Almenteros Camacho, 27, passing by the shop. Since Camacho was a familiar face in the area, the mechanic did not pay much attention. However, minutes later, when the mechanic went inside to get tools, he remembered the key was still on the motorcycle. Upon exiting, he saw Camacho already riding the motorcycle. Despite giving chase, the suspect quickly escaped.
Arrest and Background
Police conducted a follow-up operation and arrested Camacho at around 10:30 a.m. in Sitio Dunggoan, Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City. Authorities discovered that this was the third time Camacho had stolen a motorcycle. According to police, the suspect suffers from bipolar disorder, and he allegedly takes vehicles during episodes of his condition, which he describes as "tripping."
