Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Melencio Naratez Jr. stood firm that there is no special treatment for Senator Ronald dela Rosa amid the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant. The PNP Chief made the statement on Wednesday, May 27, due to concerns that some officers might be "soft" on the former national police chief because of his long-standing relationship with the organization.
Institutional Respect Without Favoritism
The general insisted that while the institution maintains respect for the former PNP chief, Naratez assured the public that there will be no special treatment for dela Rosa. He emphasized that their personnel will implement all legitimate directives professionally, impartially, and transparently.
Standard Operating Procedures to Prevail
It is also expected that all PNP officers will uphold standard operating procedures without fear or favor. This comes as Senator Bato served as PNP chief under the Duterte administration from 2016 to 2018. The ICC warrant stems from the war on drugs campaign during that period.
