PNP May Use Senate Video Conferencing to Locate Dela Rosa

The Philippine National Police (PNP) may potentially use Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa's participation in Senate sessions via video conferencing to determine his whereabouts, should the proposed amendment to the rules of the Upper House be approved.

Debate Over Remote Participation

The issue emerged amid a heated debate between the Senate majority and minority blocs regarding the proposed amendment that would allow senators to vote and participate in sessions remotely through online video conferencing. Some minority members questioned the proposal, fearing it could be used by lawmakers facing cases, investigations, or arrest warrants, including Dela Rosa.

However, the PNP stated that even if remote participation is allowed, it could still aid authorities in locating the senator. 'We will try to ascertain his whereabouts or his location using the link or whatever they use for teleconferencing,' said PNP Public Information Office chief P/Col. Allen Rae Co.

Background on Dela Rosa

Dela Rosa has been linked to a case of crimes against humanity of murder at the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to the drug war campaign during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The Senate discussion also mentioned Senator Bong Go, identified as a co-perpetrator in the ICC complaint, along with other senators facing separate complaints and investigations.
