Sandiganbayan to Inspect Quezon City Jail Housing Revilla and Co-Accused in Graft Case

The Sandiganbayan anti-graft court is scheduled to conduct an inspection of the male detention dormitory at the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas. This facility currently houses former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and his co-accused, who are involved in a high-profile ghost flood control anomaly case centered in Pandi, Bulacan.

Revilla's Current Detention Status and Legal Proceedings

As of now, Revilla remains detained at the Payatas jail while his legal team's appeal for a transfer to the Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial facility is still pending. In adherence to health protocols for new inmates, the former senator is undergoing a mandatory 7-day quarantine within the facility. Upon completion of this procedure, he may be placed in a detention cell alongside seven officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the MIMAROPA region. These officials are also detained in connection with an alleged flood control anomaly case in Oriental Mindoro.

Court Hearings and Deferment of Legal Proceedings

Recently, Revilla appeared before the Third Division of the anti-graft court for a scheduled pre-trial and arraignment related to charges of graft and malversation. However, these proceedings have been deferred and rescheduled to February 9, allowing for further legal preparations and assessments.

The inspection by the Sandiganbayan underscores the ongoing judicial scrutiny in this significant corruption case, highlighting the court's commitment to ensuring proper detention conditions and procedural fairness as the legal process unfolds.
