Carmen Mayor Implements Road Closures for 53rd Sinulog Festival to Boost Safety
In a decisive move to prioritize public safety and streamline traffic flow, Carmen Mayor Carlo Villamor has officially ordered the closure of key thoroughfares in the municipality. This action is part of the preparations for the upcoming 53rd Sinulog festival, scheduled for Sunday, January 25, 2026. The mayor's directive aims to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for both residents and visitors during the vibrant street dancing and festivities honoring the Santo Niño.
Specific Road Closures and No-Parking Zones
Mayor Villamor issued Executive Order 1, which mandates the closure of Kamuning Street in Barangay Poblacion and P. Gecain Street in Dawis Norte. These roads will be completely inaccessible to vehicles from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the festival day. Additionally, a strict no-parking policy will be enforced along several national roads and streets, including the stretch from Dawis Norte to Luyang, as well as McKinley, Magallanes, and J. Climaco streets, and in Cogon West. Violators of this policy will face immediate clamping of their vehicles to ensure compliance and prevent obstructions.
Encouraging Walking and Alternative Parking Solutions
The executive order explicitly states its goal to encourage residents and visitors to walk to and from key locations such as the church and the grandstand. This initiative is designed to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance public safety throughout the festivities. For motorists traveling from distant areas, the municipality has identified designated parking spaces in unaffected zones. These include the Carmen Memorial Park, Camara Property, Cebu Technological University parking lot, Shemberg Biotech property, and Cebu Academy, providing convenient alternatives to support the road closures.
Mayor's Appeal for Public Cooperation
Mayor Villamor has made a heartfelt appeal for public cooperation to ensure the Sinulog festival proceeds in an orderly and celebratory manner. He emphasized that these measures are crucial for managing the large crowds expected during the event and for safeguarding the well-being of all participants. By adhering to the road closures and parking guidelines, the community can contribute to a smooth and successful celebration that honors the Santo Niño tradition while prioritizing safety and accessibility for everyone involved.
