In a significant step towards modernization, the Legislative Department of Cebu City is embarking on a comprehensive shift to a paperless environment for all its offices.
Digital-First Directive Issued
The initiative was formally announced through a memorandum released by Acting Vice Mayor Winston Pepito. The directive mandates that all council offices must now conduct their communications electronically. This includes memos, reports, and all forms of official correspondence. The use of physical documents will be strictly reserved for situations where it is deemed absolutely necessary or is explicitly required by law.
Standardized Digital Workflow and Environmental Benefits
According to the memorandum, a key component of this transition is the secure digital storage of all documents, records, and files. A standardized naming and tagging system will be implemented to guarantee easy access and retrieval of information. This move is projected to streamline internal workflows, significantly reduce expenses related to printing and physical storage, and enhance the overall efficiency of the city's administrative operations.
Acting Vice Mayor Pepito emphasized that this paperless approach is a core part of Cebu City's broader sustainability goals. By drastically cutting down on paper consumption, the initiative will help reduce paper waste and minimize the environmental footprint associated with paper production.
Immediate Implementation and Call for Cooperation
In his statement, Pepito directed that all offices begin the transition immediately. He expressed his trust in the full cooperation of everyone involved, stating that this important initiative will lead to a dual benefit: improved operational efficiency and a positive reduction in the environmental impact of their work.
