Cousin Assault Over P20 Leads to Arrest in Cebu City

A 19-year-old man finds himself behind bars at Mabolo Police Station after allegedly assaulting his own cousin in a violent altercation that erupted over a mere twenty pesos.

Violent Confrontation in Apas Barangay

The incident occurred around 3:00 in the afternoon on November 28 in Barangay Apas, Cebu City. The suspect, known by the alias Kaloy, reportedly attacked his 19-year-old cousin, identified as Kakay, following a heated argument about money.

According to initial police investigations, the confrontation began when Kaloy asked his cousin for P20 to buy food. When Kakay refused to give him the money, the situation quickly escalated into violence.

Pattern of Provocation Leads to Physical Attack

The investigation reveals that the money dispute was not an isolated incident. Authorities noted that ongoing teasing and gossip from the victim had been creating tension between the cousins prior to the physical assault.

Kaloy claimed during questioning that his cousin regularly subjected him to hurtful name-calling, using derogatory terms such as "hilason" (poisoner) and "palamunin" (freeloader), along with other painful words that contributed to his building frustration.

Immediate Police Response and Legal Consequences

Barangay tanods responded promptly to a trouble alarm and apprehended Kaloy at the scene. The victim sustained visible injuries, specifically bruises on her face from being punched multiple times.

Despite their family relationship, Kakay made the decision to press charges against her cousin, leading to his current detention at Mabolo Police Station while the case proceeds through the legal system.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly family disputes can escalate into criminal matters, with both parties now facing the serious consequences of that fateful afternoon confrontation.
