Iloilo City Initiates Fuel Subsidy Distribution for 1,718 Tricycle Drivers
In a significant move to support public utility drivers grappling with escalating fuel costs, the Iloilo City Government has commenced the distribution of fuel subsidy coupons. This initiative, which started on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, targets 1,718 tricycle drivers and operators as the first batch of beneficiaries, underscoring the city's commitment to safeguarding livelihoods amid economic challenges.
Phased Rollout Across City Districts
Mayor Raisa Treñas outlined the distribution schedule, noting that the initial release covers Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (Toda) members from Arevalo, Molo, Jaro, and La Paz districts on March 25. This will be followed by distributions in City Proper and Mandurriao on March 26. The mayor emphasized the city's dedication to providing monthly subsidies until petroleum prices stabilize, aiming to cushion the financial strain on the transport sector.
Program Details and Objectives
The fuel subsidy program is designed to alleviate the impact of rising petroleum prices, exacerbated by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Under this scheme, tricycle drivers and operators will receive P500 worth of petroleum products monthly, with a similar program for public utility jeepneys offering P1,500 per month to follow. The city has allocated two days for fuel loading this week to ensure an orderly process, with specific schedules for different districts.
Fuel Loading Schedule and Requirements
Fuel loading is scheduled for March 27 for beneficiaries from Arevalo, City Proper, and Jaro, and on March 28 for those from Mandurriao, Molo, La Paz, and Lapuz. Both days will operate from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. To claim the subsidy, beneficiaries must present:
- Original driver's license
- Photocopy of a valid ID with three specimen signatures
- Photocopy of the updated OR/CR
For operators with multiple tricycle units, an authorized representative may claim for each unit, provided an authorization letter is presented. Authorization forms are available from the Iloilo City Government or can be prepared in advance by claimants.
Logistical Support and Guidelines
City Government personnel will be stationed at designated gasoline stations to assist beneficiaries, with each route assigned a specific station for convenience. The assigned station is indicated on the fuel subsidy coupon, and beneficiaries are advised to adhere to the scheduled date and designated station. Drivers may bring extra containers if the P500 fuel exceeds their tricycle tank capacity.
Future Plans and Contact Information
Following the distribution to Toda members, the City Government will proceed with releasing fuel subsidy coupons for public utility jeepney drivers under Batch 1. For inquiries, beneficiaries can contact the Atipan Center via Globe: 0995-391-3450; Smart: 0947-583-3564; or Landline: (033) 337-1890. This comprehensive program reflects Iloilo City's proactive approach to supporting its transport community during times of economic uncertainty.
