Iloilo City Government Distributes Fuel Subsidy Vouchers to Tricycle Drivers
On March 26, 2026, the Iloilo City Government took a significant step to support its transport sector by distributing P500 fuel subsidy vouchers to a total of 161 tricycle drivers and operators from the City Proper district. The distribution event was held at City Hall, marking a proactive effort to cushion the impact of escalating fuel prices on local livelihoods.
Mayor Treñas Announces Ongoing Commitment
Mayor Raisa Treñas emphasized that this initiative is not a one-time effort. "The good news is, this is not the first and last. The commitment of the Iloilo City Government is that as long as there is a crisis, we will strive to provide a fuel subsidy every month," she stated. This pledge underscores the city's dedication to sustaining support for its transport community amid economic challenges.
Local Government Leads with Atipan Center
Treñas highlighted that Iloilo City is among the pioneering local government units (LGUs) to allocate local funds specifically for transport sector aid. Through the Atipan Center, the city has established a mechanism to complement assistance from national government agencies, ensuring a more robust safety net for drivers and operators.
Expanding Support with Rice Subsidy Plans
In anticipation of rising goods prices, Mayor Treñas revealed that her office is planning to introduce a rice subsidy program. This additional measure aims to further alleviate financial burdens on residents, demonstrating a holistic approach to crisis management.
Distribution Details and Beneficiary Numbers
The first batch of the city's fuel subsidy program includes a total of 1,718 beneficiaries across multiple districts. Since Wednesday, March 25, the City Government, via the Atipan Center, has been distributing coupons in the districts of Arevalo, City Proper, Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz, and Molo. Tricycle drivers and operators in Mandurriao are scheduled to receive their coupons on Thursday afternoon.
Fuel Claim Schedule for Designated Stations
To facilitate the process, tricycle drivers and operators can claim fuel using their vouchers at designated fuel stations according to a specific schedule:
- March 27: Arevalo, City Proper, and Jaro
- March 28: Mandurriao, Molo, La Paz, and Lapuz
This structured approach ensures an organized and efficient distribution, minimizing disruptions for all involved parties.
