Lapu-Lapu City Police Issues Stern Warning on Vandalism Enforcement
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) has issued a firm warning to residents, emphasizing that individuals caught committing acts of vandalism will face severe penalties, including possible imprisonment and hefty fines starting at P3,000. This announcement was made on Monday, February 9, 2026, as authorities prepare to strictly implement Ordinance 16-055-2022, a local law designed to bolster the city's ongoing "Clean and Green" initiative.
Strict Enforcement of Anti-Vandalism Ordinance
Under the ordinance, penalties escalate for repeat offenders to ensure compliance and deterrence. For a first offense, violators will be fined P3,000. A second offense carries a fine of P4,000, while a third offense may result in a fine of P5,000 and/or imprisonment, with the final decision left to the discretion of the court. The LCPO stressed that this measure aims to protect both public and private property from damage and to support efforts in maintaining the city's cleanliness and orderliness.
Community Cooperation Urged for Cleanliness
Authorities have called on the public to actively participate in reporting any violations to help uphold the city's standards. In a statement, the LCPO said, "We urge everyone to work together to protect the cleanliness and well-being of our city and to immediately report any violations to the police." They highlighted that maintaining a clean, orderly, and beautiful urban environment is a shared responsibility among all residents, requiring collective vigilance and action.
Mayor's Response to Recent Vandalism Incident
Earlier, Mayor Ma. Cynthia "Cindi" King-Chan strongly condemned a recent act of vandalism that occurred in late January, just as the city was gearing up for the Asean Tourism Forum and related events. The timing was particularly concerning, with the city preparing to welcome delegates and showcase its best face. In response, the mayor publicly offered a P5,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the culprits, underscoring the city's commitment to cleanliness and presentability ahead of the international activities.
Mayor Chan expressed disappointment, noting that despite ongoing efforts to clean and beautify Lapu-Lapu City, some individuals continue to disregard respect for public order and environmental upkeep. This incident has reinforced the need for stringent enforcement of the anti-vandalism ordinance to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
